How to Buy Fine Jewelry Online With Confidence
Fine jewelry is a considered purchase, and buying it without holding it first can feel like a risk. It does not have to be. The right questions will tell you most of what a shop counter would. This checklist is what we would want any buyer to ask, including of us.
Quick Answer
Ask for proof before you look at the sparkle: an independent grading report, a stated metal and karat, real photos or video, a clear price for the exact option you want, written policies, and a real person you can speak to.
1. Check the Diamond Documentation
Ask which independent laboratory graded the diamond and whether a report comes with the piece. Reports from laboratories such as IGI and GIA carry a report number that you can enter on the laboratory's own website to confirm the details. Our articles on what certification means and grading reports and appraisals explain how to read one.
2. Make Sure the Origin of the Diamond Is Stated
A seller should say clearly whether a diamond is lab-grown or mined. Both are real diamonds, and the difference affects price, so it should never be left vague.
3. Confirm the Metal and Karat
The listing should name the metal and its purity, for example 18K yellow gold, and the piece should carry the matching hallmark. Be careful with listings that show a low price without saying which metal it applies to. See gold karats explained.
4. Read the Carat Figure Properly
Check whether the carat weight is for the centre stone or the total of all stones. On earrings it is usually for the pair. Carat weight explained shows why this matters.
5. Ask to See the Piece
Product images are a starting point. A serious seller will be willing to answer questions about a piece and, where possible, share additional photos or a video so you can judge scale and finish.
6. Understand the Full Price
Before you pay, know the price of the exact metal, carat weight and size you have chosen, and ask what delivery, taxes and import duties apply to your country. The total should not be a surprise at the door.
7. Read the Policies Before You Order
Look for written policies on delivery, returns, resizing and after-sales care. Made-to-order and personalised pieces often have different terms, so check which apply to your order. Ours are in Customer Care and the Legal Center.
8. Know Who You Are Buying From
A trustworthy seller tells you its legal name, where it is registered and how to reach it. Send a message before you buy. The speed and clarity of the reply will tell you a great deal about the service you can expect afterwards.

How FID Royal Jewelry Approaches This
FID Royal Jewelry is a UAE-registered jewelry house working with lab-grown diamonds. We state the metal and carat weight for each option, and our Certification page explains the documentation that accompanies our pieces. Most of all, we would rather answer ten questions before a purchase than one complaint after it.
